Most systems have some kind of a “reverse” option and this is the reverse version of the standard D’Alembert Roulette Strategy. Here is a quick recap of the standard D’Alembert system so you know what this particular betting pattern is all about:
With the normal D’Alembert, you bet on any of the even chance bets and you simply increase your bets by one after a loss and then decrease them by one after a win. The idea behind doing this is simple; if you have as many wins as losses, your profit will be the number of bets that you won. It’s a nice bit of theory, but like all roulette strategies it has a weakness and its weakness is the fact that a losing run can put you in a deep hole that is hard to climb out of.
With the reverse D’Alembert you do the opposite. You increase your bets by one after a win and decrease them by one after a win. Here is an example with a starting bet of 5:
- Bet 5 and win
- Bet 6 and win
- Bet 7 and lose
- Bet 6 and lose
- Bet 5 and lose
- Bet 4 and win
- Bet 5 and win
- Bet 6 and lose
The above example is an unfavourable one for the reverse D’Alembert because you would have lost 4. Here is the maths: 5 + 6 – 7 – 6 – 5 + 4 + 5 – 6 = -4
Even though you had as many wins as losses, you still find yourself in minus by 4. That’s because as stated above, with the standard D’Alembert, if you have as many wins as losses, your profit will be the number of bets you won.
This means that when you reverse the rules around, you will be in minus by the amount of bets you win if you only win as many as you lose. Because of this, the reverse D’Alembert is only profitable when you’re on a winning run and get favourable results such as this example:
- Bet 5 and win
- Bet 6 and win
- Bet 7 and win
- Bet 8 and lose
- Bet 7 and win
- Bet 8 and win
- Bet 9 and lose
- Bet 8 and win
- Bet 9 and win
Here is the maths for the above example: 5 + 6 + 7 – 8 + 7 + 8 – 9 + 8 + 9 = 33
A profit of 33 is good but these are favourable results and the chances of seeing such results over the long term are slim. The main thing to remember with the reverse D’Alembert is this – you will only be in profit if you have more wins than losses.
With this in mind, you need to decide a point in which you will walk away with this system. With the example above, betting stopped when there was 5 more wins than losses. With strategies like this one where you increase bets after a win, it’s easy to get greedy and keep going for one more win, but you would be best off sticking to a quitting point which you will determine before the game starts.
